If you ever get a chance, and have a few hours to spare, try to watch the super-extended-platinum etc version of The Lord of the Rings. Wow! It's like a whole extra movie has been added to it. And there are a lot of holes filled in from the regular extended version. We've only watched the two discs (each)of the three movies so far, but wow! I know I shouldn't have spent the money, but if you know me you know I rarely spend money on myself. It's so much more fun to spend it on other people. So I bought these for myself. I wanted to see what I'd been missing, and I wanted the little statues that came with it. I've got Gollum, and Minis Tirith, and the two tall statue critters on the river in the first movie (I can't remember what they are called). I'm a sucker for stuff like that. I also have Tom Servo and Crow from MST3K. Gotta go. Time to drop the ring in the river of lava!

Read it.Work it.

Bet it still doesn't cover anywhere near the content of the books... no way it could. Movies are good but so far off the books it isn't funny.

Of course it doesn't. Who would watch for that length of time? This version does flesh out the characters better and fills in gaps, such as what happened with Treebeard and the Hobbits, the death of Theodred, the aftermath of the Battle of Minas Tirith (yes I know I spelled it wrong before), and much more. Many scenes were extended and many were added. Plus there are two additional discs (at least) with each section of the trilogy which provide much more info. Gonna take some time to get through that stuff.
