A couple more notes while I'm at it:
Elaine - I do love you. I'm sorry I missed your birthday. See previous post. Please forgive me.
I have a very special prayer request for those of you who pray. A family I know is dangerously close to falling apart. The parents are not speaking, except in anger, and the children are stuck in the middle. Pray that God will have his way in this matter, and that the children are not adversely affected by the fallout.
Tomorrow is Election Day. If you love your country, VOTE. If you aren't real crazy about it right now, VOTE. If you don't vote, don't gripe. You haven't earned the right. Select the candidates who will keep us a free and independent nation.
For Missouri Voters, here's something to think about. There are two amendments to our state Constitution on the ballot. One deals with a tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products, and the other is a stem cell initiative. Whether you are in favor or against either or both, do you really want them written into our Constitution? If these pass, rather than a law which can be modified if it isn't working quite right, these would be amendments which could only be corrected by another amendment. These two issues do not belong in our state Constitution.
Speaking as a former smoker, I'm asking you to vote against the tobacco tax. The state government will treat it the same as they did the lottery money. It's a ridiculously high tax ($.04 per pack). Two things will happen for sure: many people may quit smoking because they can't afford the cigarettes, thereby guaranteeing there won't be any tax money; and the people who live around the borders, such as in Kansas City and St. Louis, would go across the state line and buy their smokes, guaranteeing there won't be any tax money.
I also recommend voting no on the stem cell initiative. We already have access to government approved stem cell research. This would permit embryonic stem cell research, despite the claims in the advertisements that no human cloning would take place. You have to remember, these researchers don't believe that embryos are humans.
As far as what candidates to vote for, you don't need me to tell you that. All you have to do is consider who will be in control of the Congress. Not your local representative, but the party leaders. Do you want Hastert, Blunt, etc., or do you want Pelosi, Kennedy, Murtha, Kerry, etc. The thought of Nancy Pelosi being third in line to the Presidency makes me ill. But it's in your hands. If you don't vote, don't gripe.
