Bill Cosby has been one of my favorite comedians since I was a child and first heard his "Noah" routine. And these days, he's one of my favorite public speakers, going cross country to talk to parents about their responsibility to their children, and talking to children about their responsibilities to themselves.
He asked parents to talk with their children, spend time with them and encourage them to study hard and prevent teen pregnancy. He said parents shouldn't leave the responsibility of raising their children to television and CDs.He continued:
"It is not all right for your 15-year-old daughter to have a child," the comedian said Wednesday night. "I'm 67 years old. I'm not talking to you any different from a grandfather who would say, `I wouldn't do that if I were you.'"I agree completely, but would hasten to add this does not apply only to black families; race is not a factor in this problem. All races and creeds should heed this advice.
